There are so many thoughts in my head at any given time and so many things I want to share. I thought having a random brain dump here on my blog on Friday’s may be a fun way to “unleash” some of my thoughts and also give you all a way to get to know me more! These will be quick blog posts with 5 random things.
1. The Kids are Back to Music and Art At The School.
May it never be said about me that I homeschool out of any type of negative feelings toward the staff at public school. I know and love so many wonderful teachers and I cannot sing the praises of our local elementary school enough. Incase you didn’t know this, my girls attend music and art at our local elementary school. It’s not necessarily convenient with our schedule but they love it and it allows them to learn skills that I do not have. This was our first week back to those things and it reminded me how much I love our local school. They switched schedules around so that the girls could have art at the same time since Soph was nervous about going in alone (parents can’t go into the school). Now she can walk in with her sister and she had such a fun time!
2. I am Loving This Fall in the North
I cannot believe we were comfortably camping last weekend! We have never camped in October before. Sometimes we have snow up here by now! The first night we didn’t even turn the heat on in our camper. We had such an awesome time and so different from summer camping. It doesn’t really get dark up here in the summer so it’s a different feel. We had so much fun reading by lantern around the fire and lying under the stars. The girls had a couple friends out in the evening and they all wore head lamps and had the best time running around in the dark! They hadn’t really seen dark since April so the little things are fun. We might even get out one more time.
3. I am Loving All About Reading and wish I would have been Using it From the Beginning
This program is just so well rounded (in regards to reading) and is teaching me things about why things make the sounds they do and syllable rules that I have NEVER learned before. It’s making why words say what they do make way more sense! If you are struggling to teach your child reading right now, or wondering what you might want to use to start teaching your child, I recommend this one whole heartedly. It does take a decent amount of time daily but it is engaging and extremely well done. I will do a full post on this very soon.
4. Teaching Writing is Still the Bane of My Existence It Seems
I am still so very unsure and on the fence of what I want to do with teaching writing. GAH! It’s why I haven’t posted my curriculum choices yet because I am totally undecided in what I want to use still. So if you are a new homeschooler and you are unsure about some of your choices, don’t feel bad! Year 4 and I am still trying to figure out how to best teach writing! Thankfully we have the time and freedom to search for what works.
5. The Hardest Part Of Homeschooling is the Sacrifice of Your Time Alone
Nothing teaches you to die to self quite like parenting, and homeschooling is an extension of that. When you start parenting you often think that after 5 years you get your days back to youreslf, but homeschooling is a sacrifice of that time. This can be a hard part of homeschool. It is human nature to want some time to yourself so if you’re struggling with that aspect of homeschool, don’t feel alone. I would suggest finding another homeschooling mom friend and trade afternoons. As I type this, my girls are at their friend (who is also homeschooled) for the afternoon and she will come here some afternoon next week. It does allow you a little time to get things done without the kiddos around.
That being said, I do miss my kids when they’re gone and am so thankful that I get to spend most of every day with them!
Let me know something random about yourself in the comments!
